Every time I visit the big apple, I experience something new that blows my mind. This time I got to see what it was like to live on one of the most successful ships in US History, the aircraft carrier Intrepid. And boy was I surprised! The Air, Sea and Space Museum is a floating museum in New York City with a ton of things to do!
Grab some 3D goggles and hold on for the XD Theatre 4D Motion Ride at Exploreum Hall! Or even ride in the A-6 Cockpit simulator! This 13,000-square-foot deck is the single most popular area of the ship and is covered with interactive exhibits for people of all ages. They’ve got the latest in multi-sensory and video display technology. And seriously…who wouldn’t love the opportunity to jump in and act like a kid again?
Take a break and enjoy the café they have on board! Try the fresh Chicken Pesto sandwich if I do say so myself! They’ve got all kinds of things to choose from! Soups, salads, sandwiches and even dessert! Go ahead and take a seat in the café, or you can even book a private group experience in the cafeteria. After you’ve stuffed your face, walk through the halls of each deck. Read stories of the men and women who served on the ship, and what their daily lives were like.
Don’t forget to make your way up to the flight deck. It’s mounted with the Intrepid’s large collection of aircrafts used in Vietnam and World War II. You’ll have the opportunity to explore “vulture’s row” where the crew watches all flight operations. To make this deck even more amazing, the view is incredible!
Tired yet?! There’s still tons more to see! Visit the Gallery Deck or the Growler Submarine! Check out where the lucky few stayed, on the Concorde! Oh, and don’t forget to stop in the gift shop on your way out!
The USS Intrepid Museum offers tours, workshops, educational programs, and even over-nighters for groups of all sorts. So whether you are looking for some history, some delicious food, or just a place to have fun, the USS Intrepid is the place for you.
